As March rolls in, hope begins to blossom along with the flowers and the trees, as the thoughts of Spring drifts in. Green thumbs everywhere start the process of planting their favorite flowers and planning their gardens. God also is busy with His own cultivating in our hearts, growing the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This Fruit is planted the moment we trust Jesus as our Savior. It is then watered each time we pray. The sunlight of God’s Word shines upon the Fruit and causes growth and nourishment. As we speak to others about God’s goodness the Fruit ripens. When we are firmly planted in the soil of a solid, loving, godly Church family, the Fruit practically radiates through our lives.
As you begin to hope for Spring, how well are you cultivating your Fruit? Does the Holy Spirit shine through you, making you a loving person? Are continually full of joy? Are you known as a peacemaker? No matter the circumstances, is your heart patient? No matter the difficulty or the pain before you, is your heart kind? Even when others may be harsh, does your response always prove to be good? When others fall away and show themselves disloyal, do you reveal yourself faithful? Even when things are rough, do you show yourself to be gentle? When life is full of temptation and seems to be spinning wildly, do you still find a way to maintain self-control?
If the answer to these is ‘no’, then stop and ask the Holy Spirit for His help, guidance and strength. He is the one who will fill your life with His Fruit and turn the ‘no’ to a ‘yes’. If the answer is a ‘yes’, then pause for a moment and just praise God. Indeed, He is able, and He is worthy of our praise!
