May flowers are beautiful! We love the colors and the fragrance. We love the warm air and sunshine that come along with spring. Few, however, love the showers that pave the way. We have all heard the phrase “April Showers bring May Flowers.” We may have even said “into each life a little rain must fall.” How many of us though, when it gets down to it, appreciate the showers?
The truth is, life is not all mountaintops. We all realize that life is full of everything from peaks to valleys and everything in between. We don’t all wake up in the morning hoping for a “valley experience.” Yet it is precisely many of the lowest, darkest moments in our lives that God has used, and will use, to teach us about Himself. It is when we are at our weakest that He is revealed to be at His strongest. We have to come to the end of ourselves to realize that we can’t make it on our own. It is when we cry out to God in the midst of our fear and pain, telling Him that we can’t do this all alone, that He softly responds, “I know. You are not alone. I have been here with you all along.”
God has taken every hurt, every obstacle, every scar, everything you have been through in your life to make you who you are today. It may not have been easy. It may not have always been fun, but He has molded and shaped you into the beautiful person and personality that reflects the heart of God. So while we love the flowers, let’s also take a moment to appreciate the showers that come along from time to time. Without them, there would be no flowers.
